The Student Services Department of Northern Pennsylvania Regional College is looking to hire a Community Engagement Specialist in their Student Services Department.

JOB TITLE: Community Engagement Specialist


CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Non-exempt

COMPENSATION RANGE: Minimum Starting Salary $42,000

DIVISION: Academic and Student Affairs

DEPARTMENT: Student Services

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Community Engagement

SUPERVISES: Not Applicable


  • Associate Degree

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience using customer relationship management software
  • Confidence to learn and use a student information system and learning management system
  • One or more years of experience with sales and cold-call type situations


A Community Engagement Specialist (CES) represents Northern Pennsylvania Regional College in the communities assigned as a front-line face of the College. Individuals in this role will identify and maintain relationships with community stakeholders and potential students and influencers. Individuals in this position will be actively recruit students for enrollment as well as develop relationships with community entities and organizations to ensure NPRC has a positive and active presence in the communities we serve.

Community Engagement

  • Educate community members of NPRC educational opportunities through community engagement
  • Provide outreach to community organizations
  • Attend community events including chamber events, fairs, festivals, etc.
  • Networks with community entities (all “groups” social, business, economic dev., etc.)
  • Track and hang flyers while networking within the community
  • Liaison for NPRC sponsored or affiliated events
  • Identify job placement and volunteer opportunities for students
  • Identify ways for President’s Executive Team and Board of Trustees to be directly involved with local communities
  • Represent the College to targeted constituencies such as chambers of commerce, service organizations and secondary/middle school students/administrators


  • Responsible for the recruitment of student leads through grass roots approach within communities
  • Host NPRC open houses at instructional locations each term
  • Develop a relationship with local school districts to educate students about NPRC
  • Attend parent information sessions, college/career fairs, and other relevant recruiting events
  • Recommend new strategies and ideas for recruitment

Data Collection

  • Generate student “Prospects” into Student Information system and follow up through application
  • Track all reporting data including engagement activities, lead follow up, etc. as assigned

Maintain up to date knowledge on:

  • All upcoming WFD offerings and schedules
  • Policy, procedures, and process for enrollment
  • All NPRC educational catalog programs (Academic & Workforce Development)
  • All majors, degrees, certificates, partnerships in academics
  • WFD Catalog classes and correlation to degree paths
  • Community, funding, and additional resources for students

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Advising
  • Understand and communicate use of degree planning worksheets
  • Understand and use of degree audits
  • Understand course sequencing and where to find information
  • Familiar with navigating students through registration, website, D2L, Student Portal, Outlook, and Microsoft Office
  • Understand “services” within college and local communities for connecting students with support both academic and barrier related

Valid Driver’s License and consistent access to a vehicle.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain the following clearances and training:

  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance
  • Pennsylvania Access To Criminal History Record Check
  • Federal Criminal History Background Check
  • Training Certificate — Mandated and Permissive Reporting in Pennsylvania

Work hours: This position requires work hour flexibility and varied hours, will include nights and weekends.

Notwithstanding the office hours, all salaried employees are expected to work 40 hours weekly.


Periodic travel throughout the College’s service region required.

Proof of ability to travel to and from any location within the College’s service region.
