hovisGary R. Hovis, 71, of Kennerdell passed away at his home July 15, 2015.

Gary was born October 15, 1943, he was the son of S. Earl Hovis and Sylvia Walter Hovis.

Gary graduated from Victory Joint High School and attended Grove City College.

Gary married Cheryl Reagle on September 21, 1968, they celebrated 46 years of marriage.

Gary started his electrical Engineering Career with Acme in Cuba, New York from 1965 to 1968, from 1968 to 1986 he was employed at Magnetics in Sandy Lake and retired from Conair in 2008.

Gary was very active in the community, he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Clintonville where he was a lay speaker, piano player for the Clintonville Charge, taught Sunday school for over 40 years, held numerous church offices and was pastor parish chair person.

He volunteered at the Community Food Pantry in Clintonville.

Gary was a active member of PIPP ­Pennsylvania Independent Petroleum Producers, currently he held a position on the board of directors and was active in with the business and social operations of PIPP.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying both nature and hunting. Traveling the world was also one of his many passions.

Gary was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He was a humble, genuine, and sincere man of integrity.

He was smartly diplomatic and an equalizer to those he influenced. He had a great appreciation of history and family heritage.

He was one to cherish the past, had hope for the future yet lived for the present.

Gary is survived by his loving wife Cheryl of Kennerdell, daughters Jennifer Wright and her husband Darren of MO, Rebecca Elliott and her husband Wiley of Ohio and Abigail Jantzi and her husband Curtis of TN. His grandchildren whom he adored James and Sam Elliott of Ohio and Katy and Jack Wright of MO. 2 brothers Robert E. Hovis and his wife Sue of Polk and Philip E. Hovis and his wife Teresa of Kennerdell. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Gary is proceeded in death by his parents. Family will receive friends at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton Street, Clintonville on Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 5­8 then again of Sunday July 19, 2015 from 2­4. Funeral Services will take Monday July 20, 2015 at 11:00 am at Grace United Methodist Church, 209 Franklin Street, Clintonville with the Rev. Melody Kimmel officiating.

Interment will take place at Clintonville Methodist Cemetery. The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorial donations be sent to the Grace United Methodist Church, 209 Franklin Street, Clintonville PA 16372.
