Clara L. Smathers

Smathers, ClaraClara L. Smathers, 89, of Venus passed away Monday, July 13, 2015 at Golden Living in Oil City.

Born on September 23, 1925 in , Salem PA she was the daughter of Harry R. and Beulah M. Olsen Greer.

She graduated from White Memorial School in Knox and Oil City Hospital School of Nursing.

While she was a senior nursing student Clara worked at the Lake Bonneville Indian Reservation in Washington state during WW II.

She provided nursing coverage to allow the Resident RN to join the war effort.

On October 21, 1947 at St. Paul Reform Church in Wentling Corners, Clara was married to Richard D. Smathers who preceded her in death on April 6, 2000.

Clara was a member of the United Evangelical Church of Venus

She was a registered nurse at Oil City Hospital and she finished her nursing career with the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango County.

Clara enjoyed reading, bible study and spending time with her family.

Clara is survived by a daughter Marsha Stewart and her husband William of Eighty Four, PA, a son Richard Smathers and his wife Desiree of Venus, and grandchildren: Trey Stewart and his wife Lynda of Eighty Four, PA and their children Liam, and Savanah; Neil Stewart and wife Lynette of Washington, PA, and their daughter Lila; Evan Stewart and wife Jade of Finleyville, PA, and daughter Savanah; and SSGT Kellen Smathers and wife Amanda of Havelock, NC, and daughter Teyla, and triplet sons Kanan, Orin, and Quinton. She is also survived by siblings William E. Greer and wife Marilyn of Oil City; Martha Mong of Mansfield, OH; Harry R. Greer Jr. and wife Ruth Ann of Weedsport, NY; and Robert Greer and wife Linda of Knox.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister Barbara Hall.

Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.

Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg, with Rev. Richard Kightlinger, Pastor of the United Evangelical Church in Venus presiding.

Interment will be in the Venus Cemetery following the service.

Memorials in Clara’s honor may be made to a charity of ones choice.
